Design Process and Maker Terms

K - 3 Design Thinking:

Ideate, Make, Share

Gr. 4 - 5 Design Thinking

Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test, Make, Share

Gr. 6 - 9 Human-Centred Design Thinking

Define, Ideate, Empathy, Prototype, Test, Make, Share

Ideate:

- imagine, conceive; to form an idea(s)

Prototype:

- a preliminary model of an original idea

Tinkering

- a stage in the Design Process involving ‘toying’ with an idea through materials to create and build

Thinkering

- to work in an experimental manner to adjust previous designs and products, following observation and feedback

Design Charrette

- a short, intense, collaborative session of planning and designing, utilizing all the talents and input of the group

Makerspace

- usually a physical space where individuals or groups can work to imagine, explore, design, create, build and modify projects or products using high technology (i.e. 3D printers) or low technology (i.e. paper, pencil, tape)

Since there will be a Makerspace in my Library in the Fall 2019, I think all of these Design Functions, Processes and Actions will be present.  They all go together with the Maker Movement and with Design Thinking.
