I have never “tinkered” with Tinkercad
before as our school does not currently have a 3D printer. I have seen 3D printers and Tinkercad in
action at other schools and in workshops, however, it was not as much fun as
designing on my own! I completed 7 very
short, basic tutorials that taught me how to place, move, view, rotate, size,
group and align one or more shapes. I
also completed a tutorial on “Introduction to Primitive Shapes”. In that session, I learned how to identify
and combine primitive shapes to create basic designs. In my final tutorial, called “Build a Tinkercad
House”, I learned to use ‘boolean operations’, which is the action of combining
and/or modifying 2 or more primitive shapes.
I have posted my completed house below.
I would love to offer my students
the same opportunity that I had today of exploring, learning, creating and ‘tinkering’
with 3D design. I would also love to have
a 3D printer in my school so that students could take their designs to completion
by printing and sharing their projects.
What a wonderful learning opportunity!
